The Australian Research Council's Linkage Infraststructure, Equipment and Facilities funding program (ARC LIEF) usually involves cash contributions from partner institutions towards the cost of major equipment. Users from LIEF partner institutions who contribute funds towards equipment that is located at the BMSF can access the the BMSF at the same net hourly academic access rate as UNSW users. These users receive a discount equal to the UNSW discount until the LIEF equipment is decommisioned or the sum of discounts received by the partner institution exceeds its cash contribution by 25%.

In addition to receiving the above benefits in access, projects supervised by Chief Investigators on successful LIEF grants that fund equipment located at the BMSF have booking privileges on the LIEF equipment. The equipment is reserved on Monday to Wednesday for booking requests by users from LIEF CI groups until two weeks prior to bookable hours. Bookable hours less than 2 weeks in advance are available to all groups. Bookable hours for Thursday to Sunday are available to all users.
