The Australian Research Council's Linkage Infraststructure, Equipment and Facilities funding program (ARC LIEF) usually involves cash contributions from partner institutions towards the cost of major equipment. Users from LIEF partner institutions who contribute funds towards equipment that is located at the BMSF can access the BMSF at the same net hourly academic access rate as UNSW users. These users receive a discount equal to the UNSW discount until the LIEF equipment is decommisioned or the sum of discounts received by the partner institution exceeds its cash contribution by 25%.

In addition to receiving the above benefits in access, projects supervised by Chief Investigators on successful LIEF grants that fund equipment located at the BMSF may have booking privileges on the LIEF equipment. This will depend on individual circumstances but where possible priority access will be provided when needed.
